Description

Bloody Mary Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi “Bloody Mary”) are a stunning and sought-after freshwater shrimp variety, admired for their deep, translucent red coloration that sets them apart from other red Neocaridina types. Bred from the Chocolate Shrimp line rather than the Red Cherry lineage, they feature a richer, more glass-like tone that glows vividly under aquarium lighting.

✨ Description

Bloody Mary Shrimp display a ruby-to-burgundy red hue with a semi-transparent shell that reveals the inner body structure, giving them a gem-like appearance. Their color is more refined and vibrant than that of typical Red Cherry or Fire Red Shrimp. Females are larger, more opaque, and show stronger coloration, while males are smaller and lighter. Adult size averages 1–1.25 inches (2.5–3 cm).

🌿 Care

These shrimp are hardy, peaceful, and well-suited for both beginners and experienced shrimp keepers.

  • Temperature: 68–78°F (20–26°C)

  • pH: 6.5–8.0

  • Hardness: 6–15 dGH
They thrive in heavily planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots, mosses, and biofilm-rich surfaces. Stable, clean water is essential for maintaining their vivid coloration and health.

🍽️ Diet

Bloody Mary Shrimp are omnivores, feeding on biofilm, algae, detritus, and high-quality shrimp pellets or wafers. Occasional supplements of blanched vegetables or mineral-rich foods support molting and breeding.

🐣 Breeding

Easy to breed under stable conditions. Females carry eggs beneath their abdomen for about 3–4 weeks before releasing fully developed juveniles. The offspring inherit their parents’ deep red coloration, intensifying with age and good diet.

Vibrant, active, and easy to maintain, Bloody Mary Shrimp make a striking centerpiece for any freshwater aquarium, combining beauty with practical algae-cleaning benefits.
