Description
Green Jade Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi “Green Jade”) are a striking freshwater dwarf shrimp known for their deep, rich green coloration. They belong to the same species as Red Cherry and Blue Dream Shrimp, but have been selectively bred for their unique jade-green hue.
🧬 Description
Green Jade Shrimp display shades ranging from olive to dark emerald green, sometimes with a subtle metallic sheen. Females are typically larger, more opaque, and show deeper color, while males are smaller and slightly translucent. Adult size averages around 1–1.25 inches (2.5–3 cm).
🌿 Care
They thrive in clean, well-cycled aquariums with stable parameters:
-
Temperature: 68–78°F (20–26°C)
-
pH: 6.5–8.0
-
Hardness: 6–15 dGH
A planted tank with mosses and leaf litter helps them feel secure and promotes natural grazing.
🍽️ Diet
Green Jade Shrimp are omnivorous scavengers, feeding on biofilm, algae, detritus, and shrimp-specific foods or blanched vegetables.
🐣 Breeding
Easy to breed under good conditions. Females carry eggs for about 3–4 weeks before releasing miniature, fully formed shrimp. Consistent water quality encourages healthy reproduction and strong coloration.
