Description
The L471 pleco, commonly called the Mini Snowball Pleco or White Spotted Dwarf Hypancistrus, is a small and striking freshwater catfish from the Hypancistrus group, prized in the aquarium hobby for its jet-black body speckled with bright white spots. Unlike large common plecos, L471 stays compact (about 3–4 inches / 7–10 cm), making it suitable for smaller tanks and community setups.
Peaceful and mostly nocturnal, the L471 prefers plenty of hiding places like caves, driftwood, and rock crevices, and thrives in warm, well-oxygenated water with stable parameters. Its diet is omnivorous with a carnivore lean, enjoying sinking pellets, protein-rich frozen foods, and occasional veg treats.
Though shy, it’s a beautiful, hardy, and captivating bottom-dweller that adds visual interest to planted or nano aquariums while peacefully coexisting with gentle tankmates.
