Red Rili Shrimp are a popular and eye-catching variety of Neocaridina davidi, a freshwater dwarf shrimp species prized by aquarium enthusiasts. They’re closely related to the Red Cherry Shrimp but have a distinctive and more striking color pattern.

Here’s a detailed description:

  • Scientific name: Neocaridina davidi “Red Rili”

  • Common names: Red Rili Shrimp, Red Rili Neocaridina

🧬 Appearance

  • Coloration: Red Rili Shrimp have vivid red coloration on the head and tail, with a transparent or translucent midsection along the abdomen. The clear section may sometimes show a bluish tint depending on lighting and background.

  • Pattern variation: Each shrimp’s pattern can vary slightly — some have broader red bands, while others have more clear space.

  • Size: Adults typically grow to about 1–1.25 inches (2.5–3 cm).

  • Sexual dimorphism: Females are usually larger and display deeper, richer coloration. Males are smaller and paler.

🌊 Habitat & Care

  • Temperature: 68–78°F (20–26°C)

  • pH: 6.5–8.0

  • Water hardness: 6–15 dGH

  • Tank size: Minimum 5 gallons, ideally with plenty of plants, moss, and hiding spaces.

🍃 Behavior & Diet

  • Temperament: Peaceful, social, and active grazers that thrive in groups.

  • Diet: Omnivorous — they eat biofilm, algae, detritus, and specialized shrimp foods.

  • Tankmates: Safe with other non-aggressive nano fish and invertebrates. Avoid large or predatory fish.

🐣 Breeding

  • Difficulty: Easy in stable, clean freshwater conditions.

  • Reproduction: Females carry eggs (often called being “berried”) under their tails for about 3–4 weeks before releasing fully formed baby shrimp.
